Hearing Evaluation
Each hearing evaluation includes a detailed discussion of your current medical history, and we’ll take the time to determine how your symptoms are affecting your day-to-day life.
We begin with obtaining a thorough understanding of your hearing difficulties. Then we perform a hearing evaluation, designed to assess the type, source, and severity of your hearing loss. Dennis Neira is an expert in performing a variety of specialized tests to uncover what’s preventing you from hearing well.
A complete physical examination of your ear will allow us to see if your ear canal is clear and healthy, or if there is an obstruction that’s causing your hearing loss. Using a series of audiometric tests, Dennis will uncover which sounds you are able to clearly hear and what ranges of volumes or frequencies may present a challenge.
All of our findings will be discussed with you in an easy to comprehend manner, so you truly understand your own hearing loss. Dennis prides himself on extensive patient education, and by the time your hearing evaluation has concluded, you will be well-versed in your specific type of hearing loss and the best ways to treat it. Dennis is a firm believer in giving patients the final say when it comes to their specific treatment, so you will never feel pressured to make a decision that isn’t fit for you.
Since we do spend a great deal of time on education, you may feel more comfortable bringing a friend or family member with you to your appointment. Dells Hearing Care values interpersonal relationships with our patients and we understand how helpful it can be to have a supportive individual present during your evaluation. We are here to answer any questions you may have, as your understanding of your hearing loss and the solutions available are instrumental to your overall success.
Hearing Aid Cleanings
During your professional hearing aid cleaning, your Clinician will use specialized tools to gently remove any accumulation of earwax, sweat, dust, and debris from your hearing aids.
The Clinician will ensure that all of the debris is removed safely and completely, without damaging any of the delicate interworking of your hearing aid. Your cleaning will include cleaning the receivers, microphones, and any tubing your hearing aid may or may not have, as well as gentle cleaning of the outer casing. Hearing aid cleaning appointments are rather quick and do not often involve the need to leave your hearing aids overnight in the clinic.
Fitting & Programming
The fitting and programming period is the single most important appointment you will have with Dennis at Dells Hearing Care.
Each type of hearing loss is completely different and can affect individuals in a variety of ways, it takes extreme precision and accuracy to program your hearing aids for your needs. Dennis is one of only a handful of hearing healthcare providers that utilize Real Ear Measurements, and because of this practice, our patients see an incredibly high rate of success with treatment.
What are Real Ear Measurements (REMs)?
Real Ear Measures, or Real Ear Verification, is the only way to ensure your hearing aids are fit appropriately. Real Ear Measurement is the gold standard method of verifying these hearing aid prescriptions. With this process, your hearing care provider will place probe microphone tubes inside of your ear canals along with the hearing aids that they are programming. These microphone tubes will record the level of amplification coming out of the hearing aids. By playing a known calibrated signal from a loud speaker in front of you, we can measure to see if the amplification coming out of the hearing aids is meeting your prescriptive targets.
